The Limitation of Light

Even the most powerful Fresnel lens is rendered useless by thick maritime fog. To solve this, historical engineers implemented acoustic signals. Early stations used heavy bronze bells struck by clockwork mechanisms. Later technology utilised compressed air to power massive diaphones and sirens, broadcasting low-frequency blasts that could travel for miles through dense mist.
